Preparation and Properties of PBO Nanofiber Membranes via Electrospinning and Thermal Conversion

Abstract In this study, Polybenzoxazole (PBO) nanofiber membranes are prepared by applying a three-step process, including synthesis of the electrospinning precursor with ortho-hydroxyl, electrospinning, and thermal conversion. Electrospinning is conducted at 10 kV distance cm solution concentration 17.8% (w/v). Different flow rates adopted to prepare polymer test their properties. At rate 0.5 μL/min 1 μL/min, uniform compact films nanofibers obtained. The high-temperature transition from PBO then investigated systematically. Thermal treatment 420°C needed for complete cyclodecarboxylation conversion PBO. Diameters fibers in as-prepared membrane within range 120-130 nm. shows high stability decomposition temperature 619.8°C N 2 513.6°C air respectively, presenting promising application prospect areas.
